6th & 8th Grade Water Treatment Plant Field Trip

From Classroom to Community: Exploring Water Systems in Action
Posted on 03/23/2026
Students in our 6th and 8th grade science classes recently took learning beyond the classroom with an exciting visit to our local water treatment facility. This hands-on experience directly supports the Virginia Science Standards of Learning, focusing on water resources, water quality, and human impact on the environment. During the trip, students observed the step-by-step process used to clean and distribute drinking water, including filtration, sedimentation, and disinfection. They gained a deeper understanding of how communities ensure safe water and the importance of conserving this vital resource. By connecting classroom concepts to real-world applications, students saw firsthand how science plays a critical role in everyday life. This experience not only strengthened their understanding of water systems and sparked career connections within our community, but also encouraged them to reflect on their role in protecting our environment.
